MOSTRA DOMINGOS OLIVEIRA
Known and acclaimed for his ability to seek creative solutions to man’s moral problems, transforming cinema into the best and most innovative form of self-help, Domingos Oliveira is the author and director of the classic “All Women in the World”, with Leila Diniz.
It is very likely that Domingos Oliveira is the only Brazilian artist to have an important career in three different media: cinema, theater and television. In more than 60 years of practicing his profession, Domingos wrote 28 plays, directed 63, published 6 books, released six translations, directed 18 feature films and participated in almost 50 telefilms, as a screenwriter or director.
His films are usually made from his own plays, but they stand out for their mastery of cinematographic language. And its circulation through different artistic environments makes it innovative in each one. It was inspired by his work in the theater that Domingos renewed Brazilian cinema. His films avoid excess production, move away from technicality and are made by a group of actors who are almost fixed, who also work on dramaturgical creation, giving personal
testimonies and, in some cases, contributing to the writing of the script. Domingos often uses his own experience as starting material for dramaturgical recreation. However, his films go far beyond autobiography, composing panels of our time, equating groups of characters and highlighting the dilemmas of contemporary man.
For Domingos, romanticism has always been the best way to live life and, in the midst of an era of disillusionment, he built comedies that ennoble man and portray the human experience as something remarkable, wonderful, surprising and worth living. In his work, the individual, even when small, fragile and insecure, is always valued.
“A MAN SHOULD ATTEMPT TO MAKE OF HIS LIFE SOMETHING SO SUBTLE AND DELICATE AS A WORK OF ART, IF POSSIBLE A MASTERPIECE”
